school

The school was founded as a logical result of the sponsorship program

80% of our students are girls. Because our target group are those in greatest need, and because they live in extreme poverty, most of these children have never even held a pencil in their hands. Most of them donÕt speak French, the official language which is taught in Burkina Faso. As a result, kids in these families have a severe disadvantage compared to other kids, which is why we include a kindergarten class to help prepare them for first grade.

To cut costs and prevent the school from becoming a ghetto school, children from financially stable families are enrolled as well. Because the school has a good name in the area, there is a waiting list of students waiting and hoping to get enrolled there. The school has a library and each Saturday there is a readerÕs club.
